HISTORY NHFX began as an idea amongst a group of NH filmmakers and artists
from Derry and steadily has grown into a nationally recognized independent
film festival through the efforts of many dedicated volunteers and community
members over the years.
NHFX made its debut at the Adams Memorial Opera House
in September 2001, only three days after the horrific events of September
11th occurred. While many who planned the event wondered if they should
continue so near the tragedy, the responses of those who attended the
festival praised their “show must go on” attitude and plans
for the 2nd annual event were immediately started. Over the next few years
the event gained popularity among New England independent filmmakers and
screenwriters. So the search was on for a new home that could accommodate
its growing needs. A place that could accommodate multiple screening venues,
out of town filmmakers and producers, offer restaurants, and leave guests
with great memories of New England charm and hospitality! After now 2
years in Portsmouth, organizers couldn’t be happier with the City
by the Sea as the home of the New Hampshire Film Expo. The festival attracts
thousands of guests from around New England and as far away as LA and
NY to name a few. So, come find out for yourselves what we’re all
about and join us for the 6th annual NHFX as we turn Portsmouth into Sundance
and Chestnut Street into the red carpet!
